COMICS ABOUT THE POST-WAR ERA
available here
Werner Abresch collected objects of everyday culture, particularly items from the postwar period. Often born of necessity and crafted from the remnants of war: flower vases made from shell casings, clothes sewn from parachute silk. Perhaps the best-known example is the steel helmet that was transformed into a kitchen colander.
Inspired by some of the 2,000 objects in the Abresch Collection, comic stories have been created that trace the history of these objects, bring the past to life, and help us better understand the German postwar period.
These comics demonstrate that there are different approaches to addressing these themes. In addition to a framing narrative dedicated to Werner Abresch, four stories were created in which the artists, with great creativity and empathy, bring the stories behind the objects to life.
